Features
This item is a cover for a futon mattress. It does not contain any cotton filling. Please make sure you are ordering the correct item.
Fabric - Soft 100% cotton double gauze.
Opening - Wide side zipper for easy insertion and removal of the futon. The cover fully encloses the futon.
Double gauze is made by layering two loosely woven gauze fabrics and joining them at small points.
The open weave allows air to circulate and helps release heat and moisture. The space between the two layers also holds a small amount of air, giving the fabric gentle warmth without feeling heavy.
- Breathable and absorbent
- Soft and comfortable against the skin
- Becomes softer with each wash
- Light, airy, and gently warm
- Suitable for babies and people with sensitive skin
The fabric develops a softer, more relaxed texture with regular use and washing.
Size Information
For our Futon Mattresses (Shikifutons) and Toppers, choose the cover with the same size name. For example, a Single cover fits both our Single Futon Mattress and Single Topper.
Our covers are made approximately 5 cm (2.0 in) larger in both length and width than the corresponding Futon Mattress (Shikifuton) fabric size. This makes the futon easier to insert and allows for possible shrinkage after washing.
As size names can vary by country, please check the measurements below before ordering.

How to Choose the Right Cover Size
Measure the circumference of your futon in both directions, as shown in the diagram.
- Length: circumference ÷ 2 + 5 cm / 2 in
- Width: circumference ÷ 2 + 5 cm / 2 in
The results will be the recommended cover length and width.
Example:
Length circumference: 400 cm / 157.5 in
→ Recommended cover length: 205 cm / 80.7 in
Width circumference: 200 cm / 78.7 in
→ Recommended cover width: 105 cm / 41.3 in
Recommended cover size: 205 × 105 cm / 80.7 × 41.3 in
Our covers are designed for relatively flat Japanese futons and may not fit standard bed mattresses thicker than 10 cm / 4 in.
If you are unsure which size to choose, please contact us before ordering.
About Iwamoto Senni
Founded in 1948, Iwamoto Senni is a Japanese maker of bedding and sleepwear, including futon covers and pajamas.
The company operates its own sewing factories in Kyoto and Shiga, handling each step from fabric development and design to cutting, sewing, and shipping.
Rather than keeping finished products in stock, each item is made after an order is placed. From covers for traditional inns to sleepwear for individual customers, every piece is carefully made in Japan with comfort and everyday use in mind.
How It’s Made
Made from 100% cotton double gauze using the traditional Japanese wazarashi bleaching process.
Unlike modern high-speed bleaching methods, wazarashi slowly washes the fabric to remove impurities without placing unnecessary stress on the cotton fibers. This careful process helps preserve the cotton’s natural softness, gentle feel, and breathable character.
