Features

This item is a cover for a futon mattress. It does not contain any cotton filling. Please make sure you are ordering the correct item.

Fabric - Enshu-woven fabric made from 100% cotton.

Opening - Wide side zipper for easy insertion and removal of the futon. The cover fully encloses the futon.

Shima Stripes features alternating indigo and blue stripes with subtle variations in width and texture. The simple linear pattern gives the fabric a calm, timeless character.

Striped textiles, known as shima in Japan, became especially popular during the Edo period as cotton fabrics became more widely used. Originally influenced by striped textiles brought to Japan from overseas, shima developed into a familiar part of Japanese everyday dress and textile culture.

The deep indigo tones and fine woven stripes give this fabric a simple, understated look that works naturally with Japanese futons.

  • Traditional Japanese-inspired stripe pattern
  • Deep indigo and blue tones
  • Subtle variation in stripe width
  • Simple, timeless design
  • Made in Japan

Size Information

For our Futon Mattresses (Shikifutons) and Toppers, choose the cover with the same size name. For example, a Single cover fits both our Single Futon Mattress and Single Topper.

Our covers are made approximately 5 cm (2.0 in) larger in both length and width than the corresponding Futon Mattress (Shikifuton) fabric size. This makes the futon easier to insert and allows for possible shrinkage after washing.

As size names can vary by country, please check the measurements below before ordering.

US Full is available for selected covers only.

Enshu Weave

Enshu Weave is a traditional woven textile from the Enshu region of Shizuoka, an area long known for cotton production.

The fabric is still woven in small quantities by skilled craftspeople using traditional techniques. At Shinchi Orimono, the looms are intentionally run at a slower speed to reduce tension on the fabric, helping preserve its soft texture.

Yarns of different thicknesses are used to create a rich, three-dimensional surface with subtle variations in color and texture. The result is a fabric with a warm, distinctive character that reflects the skill of the weaver.
