A traditional Japanese-style bath stool made from natural Hinoki (Japanese cypress).

Each stool is handcrafted in Kochi, Japan, using unfinished Hinoki wood. The smooth surface and natural scent of the wood make it well suited to the warm, humid environment of a Japanese-style bathroom.

When warm water is poured over the stool, the natural aroma of Hinoki becomes more noticeable.

Natural Hinoki Wood

Hinoki has long been used in Japan for buildings, baths, and everyday wooden objects.

The wood has a light color, smooth texture, and distinctive natural fragrance. Because the surface is left uncoated, you can feel the natural texture of the wood directly.

Each piece of wood is different. Knots, variations in grain and color, small areas of unevenness, and other natural characteristics may be visible. These are part of the appearance of natural Hinoki and are not considered defects.

The wood used for this stool may include knots because it is made using thinned timber.

Material & Origin

Material: Natural Hinoki (Japanese Cypress)
Made in: Kochi, Japan

Caution in Use

Hinoki is a natural wood, and small amounts of resin may occasionally appear on the surface over time. This is a normal characteristic of the material and is not considered a defect.

If resin appears, it can be gently wiped away with rubbing alcohol (ethanol) before use.

Hinoki is relatively soft and lightweight, with a smooth natural feel. Because of this, strong impact or contact with hard objects may leave scratches or dents on the surface. These marks are a natural part of using unfinished wood.

Made in Kochi, Japan

This factory is located in a small town surrounded by valleys and green mountains.

The company is located upstream of the Niyodo River, known as one of the clearest rivers in Japan.

All wooden products are made while respecting and preserving the natural environment of Kochi.

Although Kochi Prefecture has an image of seas and rivers, it is one of the most forested prefectures in Japan, with 84% of its land area covered by forests.

This abundance of forests nurtures the clear streams of the Shimanto and Niyodo Rivers, producing a rich natural environment and its bounty.

How to Care Hinoki Stool

Care Instructions

After use, rinse the stool with clean water to remove soap or residue.

Wipe off excess water and allow it to dry in a well-ventilated place.

Avoid leaving the stool soaking in water for long periods, as this may cause the wood to warp or crack.

Do not dry it for extended periods in strong direct sunlight. Shade drying in a well-ventilated area is recommended.

If the surface becomes rough or the Hinoki aroma becomes faint, lightly sanding the surface can help refresh the wood.

About Natural Resin

Natural Hinoki may occasionally release resin onto the surface over time. This is a normal characteristic of natural wood and is not a defect.

If resin appears, it can be gently wiped away before use.
